How To Order Vegan at Blimpie (2023)
Ordering vegan at Blimpie just got a whole lot easier!
That’s because about a week ago (January 2022), Blimpie added a Plant-Based Meatball Parmigiana sub.
The plant-based meatballs are made by Gardein and like most everything Gardein makes, they’re really good!
While that’s far and away the best vegan option on the menu in my opinion, I’m going to go through all the vegan choices available at Blimpie.
Let’s get started!
Best Vegan Options at Blimpie
Plant-Based Meatball Parmigiana
Like I mentioned at the start, the best vegan option on the menu is the new Plant-Based Meatball Parmigiana powered by Gardein vegan meatballs.
However, there’s more you need to know to order it vegan.
By default, the sub comes with both melted provolone and sprinkled with parmesan. Obviously, you’ll need to omit both cheeses on your order. No vegan cheese at Blimpie yet, so your sub will be sans cheese (unless you bring your own which I’ve been known to do).
To order your plant-based meatball sub, start with your choice of bread first.
Vegan Bread at Blimpie
Many of the breads at Blimpie are vegan. So are the tortillas if you want to create a meatball wrap, which actually sounds delightful.
Your choices are:
- Italian White
- Whole Grain Wheat
- Ciabatta
- Pretzel Bread
- Flour Tortilla
- Spinach Tortilla
Then you can add your choice of toppings (full list of vegan toppings listed with the Veggie Sub below). I didn’t add anything to mine on this trip, but some peppers and maybe even pickles could make a great addition.
Veggie & Cheese Sub
Before the addition of the plant-based meatball sub, the best vegan option on the menu was the same as you’ll find at many sub shops – veggies on bread.
To order a Veggie and Cheese sub vegan, you’ll first need to omit the cheese.
Then, pick from one of the breads I’ve listed out above.
Next, choose from the following toppings:
- Lettuce
- Tomatoes
- Pickles
- Spinach
- Onion
- Sweet Peppers
- Banana Peppers
- Jalapenos
- Roasted Red Peppers
- Olives
- Oregano
Once you’ve added toppings to your hearts content you can finish your sub off with one of the following sauces/dressings:
- Blimpie Special Sauce
- Frank’s Red Hot
- Light Italian
- Oil Blend
- Red Wine Vinegar
- Spicy Brown Mustard
- Teriyaki Sauce
- Yellow Mustard
Make It a Combo
After you’ve created your sub, you can make it a combo by adding chips and a drink. (none of the cookies at Blimpie are vegan so that’s not an option when making your meal a combo)
When I went, only two of the chips available were vegan-friendly – Lay’s and BBQ Lay’s.
I believe Blimpie generally also has Baked Lays, after all they were literally pictured on their in-store menu, but they didn’t have any on my trip.
It had been quite awhile since I had BBQ Lay’s and I actually thought they paired nicely with the Plant-Based Meatball Sub.
For the drink, Blimpie carries Pepsi products. It was a ‘get a cup and pour your own fountain drink’ type of situation.
That’s It!
Those are your best options (and really your only options) when ordering vegan at Blimpie.
A choice of a plant-based meatball sub or a veggie sub, then add a bag of chips if you choose.
Hope this article helps you out for the next time you visit Blimpie!
